Breakdown
PANTHERS
While it's a little early to be talking about players of the year, plays of the year or games of the year, mark down Bay Area's last-minute win over the Arizona Rattlers might just be on that list of games by season's end. Dalton Sneed was solid in the win, completing 72 percent of his passes for 137 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 48 yards and another score. Justin Rankin, always at the top of the IFL rushing charts, ran for 59 yards and three touchdowns. JT Stokes emerged as the top receiver in week 1 with his seven catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns, and Arthur Jackson III's lone reception went for a 26-yard touchdown. William Atkins and Tevin Homer led the Panthers' defense with seven and 6.5 tackles, respectively. Veteran Darin Hungerford had 4.5 tackles, a sack and an interception. Kevin Goessling averaged 45.3 yards per kickoff last week.
PIRATES
Massachusetts was more than solid last week in a 14-point, season-opening win over the Green Bay Blizzard. Their goal will be to get back to the IFL National Championship Game which they won two seasons ago. Alejandro Bennifield was outstanding in the opener, completing 18 of 21 passes for three touchdowns and no picks. He also had two scores on the ground. Jimmie Robinson made an impact in the running game with his 15 carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson caught five passes for 62 yards. Darren Carrington II hauled in five passes for 50 yards and a touchdown, and Thomas Owens comes in with four grabs for 46 yards and a score. Brendon White and Aarion Maxey-Penton each recorded seven tackles against the Blizzard, and Momodou Mbye added 6.5 tackles and an interception. Josh Gable averaged 47.1 yards on his kickoffs and hit both of his field goal attempts.
