Breakdown
WRANGLERS
Even though they are eliminated from playoff contention, Northern Arizona is still playing hard. The Wranglers took the Tucson Sugar Skulls to three overtimes and, if it weren't for an unfortunate slip to the turn by quarterback Verlon Reed, Jr. on a two-point conversion try, it may have gone to a fourth. What their doing is looking for strategy which might work and, if so, use it to pick up another win or two in their last three games of the season. Since coming back from injury, Reed has been looking to regain his form from 2017 when he was named IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year with the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles. He is completing 53 percent of his passes for 19 touchdowns with six interceptions. He also is a threat on the ground with 26.8 yards per game and six scores. His top targets are James "JJ" Brania-Hopp, Todd Athey and Terrance Bynum. Robert Brown, Jr. leads the defense with 35 tackles and an interception. Russell Williams, Jr. and Derik Calhoun are the other players to watch on the defense.
GLADIATORS
Duke City is in position to earn a playoff spot and a win over the Wranglers would be a great start. The Gladiators are averaging an IFL second-best 50 points per game. Onn the other side of the coin, they are second-to-last in most points allowed at 49.4. If the defense comes to play, it could be a long day for the Wranglers' offense. A win Sunday afternoon would bring the Gladiators to .500 with two games left over winnable opponents. Nate Davis has started each of the Gladiators games this season and has been highly effective. He comes in completing 63 percent of his passes and leads the league (by far) with 65 touchdown passes against just eight interceptions. He also has five rushing touchdowns. The Gladiators don't rush as much as other teams, but Raymond Taylor is the lead back. Dello Davis has 25 touchdown grabs, Xavier Amey has 19 and Jared Elmore has 13. Ray Jones, Jr. leads the defense with 66 tackles and also has a sack. Paul Robinson adds 43 tackles and Javian Williams has recorded a pair of sacks.
