Breakdown
RATTLERS
Every since entering the IFL in 2017, Arizona has proved itself to be a perennial championship contender. This season is unlikely to be any different. Head coach Kevin Guy's group returns several core pieces from their 2022 squad. Namely, IFL MVP Drew Powell returns at quarterback looking to get the Rattlers back to the the championship game (formerly known as the United Bowl). Another key specialist returning is Jamal Miles, who is a dual-threat as both a rusher and a receiver who can torch opponents in multiple ways, and receiver Braxton Haley is likely to be a top target in the passing game. Brandon Smith returns to anchor the offensive line. On the defensive side, defensive backs Dillon Winfrey and Davontae Merriweather are the key returners, while the team traded for lineman Ulric Jones from the Northern Arizona Wranglers. They also signed free agent veteran kicker Craig Peterson.
STEAMWHEELERS
Quad City came just a deuce away from completing a comeback to send last year's IFL National Championship Game into overtime. As they fell a tad short last season, they have a core group coming back. E.J. Hilliard once again takes the reigns as quarterback and will have some familiar faces around him Stalwart Keyvan Rudd is a nightmare for opposing defensive backs, while Isaiah Grice and Londell Lee will get some catches. Former Rattler Jarrod Harrington is a playmaker who was signed out of free agency. Hunter Nobbs, Vernon Sainvil and Sterling Clark will shore up the offensive line. The defense has some solid returnees as well Lineman/linebacker Darreon Jackson is one of the top defenders in the league. Lineman Jaylin Swan and defensive back Malik Duncan will be players to watch both in this game and during the season. Former Bismarck Buck Chase Allbaugh will take on the kicking duties.
