ANALYSIS
This game is a rematch of the IFL season opener, won by the Danger, 44-31. The game was tight in the first half with the Danger leading 23-21 at the half. They outscored the Titans 21-10 in the second half to come away with the win. This is the sixth all-time encounter between the teams, with the Danger leading the series 4-2. Nebraska is 1-1 overall in Cedar Rapids. The Titans won the first meeting, 42-38, on June 16, 2012. The Danger won the previous meeting, 52-46 in overtime last season. Despite their close geographical proximity, the teams have played just those six games in the past seven seasons, and the teams did not meet in 2013 nor 2014.
The Danger are one of two undefeated teams left in the IFL. They've been largely impressive in both games, adding a 59-23 victory over the Green Bay Blizzard to their season-opening win over the Titans. Grand Island, Nebraska is the home to the IFL headquarters. A couple Danger players earned career milestones in week 3 against the Blizzard. Quarterback Damien Fleming reached the 3,000 passing yardage mark, while defensive lineman Xzavie Jackson recorded his 80th career sack. Head coach Mark Stoute was head coach of the Titans from 2013 to 2016, and compiled a 41-17 record with the team. The Danger are atop the IFL in both points per game at 51.5 points per game, and in total offense per game at 237.5.
Fleming searched for other opportunities the past season and a half, but he is back with the Danger and showing signs of his old self. He is one of the premiere quarterbacks in the league and is a veteran and team leader. Fleming is third in the IFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns. He also possesses the league's longest rush of the season, of 28 yards, which occurred in week 1 against the Titans. Angelo Pease is a solid running back and is averaging 46.5 yards per game on the ground. Pease's presence takes some of the heat off of Fleming, who opposing defenses typically apply much of their attention. Receivers Eric Thomas and Gregory Dent have provided the Danger a formidable one-two punch. Thomas is averaging 14.5 yards per catch and Dent comes in at 12.1. Each player has 3 touchdown grabs. Linebacker Myke Tavarres has a sack and 2 tackles for loss to go with his 9.25 total tackles per game. Jackson is the IFL's all-time leader in sacks and leads the IFL with 3 so far in the young season. He also has a league-leading 5 tackles for loss. He was named IFL Offensive Player of the Week last week. Defensive back Daniel Masifilio has the teams only interception in 2018. Brad Hatfield has made a single field goal for 16 yards.
Despite their 37-point loss to the Sioux Falls Storm in week 3, the Titans appear to better than their 1-2 record. In a bit of a cheesy note, they have already equaled their win total from a year ago. They are showing the signs of life which seemed to elude them much of last season. Former NFL linebacker Marvin Jones, who coached the Colorado Crush during the latter part of the 2017 season, has the Titans competitive. In their week 2 win over the Green Bay Blizzard, the Titans closed out the game in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jake Medlock has made a tremendous impact with the Titans. He lead's the IFL's top passing attack at 157.3 yards per game. The Titans are looking to crack the top four in the standings to earn a trip to the post season.
Medlock has been largely effective, passing for 9 touchdowns and no interceptions in his first three games as an IFL pro. He's completed 63.6 percent of his passes He is averaging 175.3 passing yards per game (the yardage stats are skewed since the team's overall passing statistics include yards lost due to sacks). Medlock could be an early season candidate for IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Medlock rushes nearly six times per game and has scored 4 touchdowns on the ground, which is tied for third in the league, and tied for second among quarterbacks. Tyler Thomas is averaging 3.0 yards per carry in the rushing game and has 2 touchdowns. He also can be potent in the passing game. He has 81 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Connor Hollenbeck's 16 receptions lead the IFL. Javon Bell leads the team in receiving yards per game at 64.0. They are both reliable targets for Medlock. Defensive back Rodney Barnes' 16.5 total tackles lead the team, and defensive lineman Kwame Bell comes in at 15.0. Kwame Bell also leads the team with 3 tackles for loss. Defensive lineman Ricarlo Bell has the team's only sack of the season. Michael Georgetti is effective in the kicking game, having hit 3 of his 5 attempts, along with a long of 23 yards.
